FTC Cracks Down On DNC Violators

On January 27th, the FTC announced that two vacation and timeshare companies and others will pay close to $1.2 million for blatant violations of the Do Not Call Registry.

Florida based Westgate Resorts, Ltd. and All In One Vacation Club were among the defendants. The FTC charged both groups with abusing the Do Not Call Registry, by calling thousands of consumers with whom they did not have an "established business relationship."

The FTC also noted that the All In One Vacation Club defendants abandoned many calls. Besides being extremely annoying to consumers, this violates a federal law stipulating calls must be connected to a sales representative within two seconds.

The Westgate defendants agreed to pay a civil penalty of $900,000, and the All In One Vacation Club defendants will pay $275,000. The FTC also is requiring these companies fully comply with the Do Not Call Registry in the future.

This announcement affirms the FTC's commitment to punish Do Not Call violators, though much more could be done. The FTC has filed a total of 40 cases against telemarketers since the Registry's conception in 2003.

Good! About time somebody did something against these scumbags. You cant walk the streets of Gatlinburg, Orlando, Datona Beach, Myrtle Beach, or any destination without some "crime-share" heckler trying to scam some family into buying a worthless timeshare condo. Then they call evey number on the planet with the scam that you have a free vacation, just spend 90 min. of us beating you down until you give in and give all your cash to us! (almost as bad as Scientoligist)

bothering somebody on the street to come in and take a tour isn't the subject here moron.
Besides, I sell timeshare and if it weren't for the greed of the tourist coming inside for freebies we would get our people from some other form of advertising.

I worked for westgate and am glad to see them sued for this. David Seigel (owner) thinks his shit doesn't stink and it's good to see him sued for a million here and there every other month.

I laugh my ass off at the greedy people who subject themselves to spending 90 minutes or more of their vacation time listening to my presentation just for some free tickets to a show when they have no interest at the timeshare lifestyle at all. Then they get mad at us for taking up their time when it was their greed that got them in the door in the first place.

I wouldn't take a timeshare tour for tickets to anything in the world if i weren't interested.

I would take one if I wanted to travel the world dirt cheap.

Selling time shares isn't a job, it falls under the catagory of, "I can't do anything else except dial a phone."
