Telemarketers Forced To Halt Car Warranty Scam

North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper announced today that Automotive Protection, a company pitching car warranties to NC consumers, must stop their shady telemarketing practices immediately.

According to Cooper, Automotive Protection telemarketers have been: violating the Do Not Call Registry, misrepresenting their services, and worst of all targeting senior citizens. Cooper said, "Calling people on the Do Not Call list and trying to trick them is no way to do business. We're taking action to stop the calls and try to win money back for consumers."

Yesterday Cooper and other state officials took serious action, entering a temporary restraining order against Automotive Protection and its manager Christopher Doyle. The order "requires the defendants to stop illegally telemarketing North Carolinians and to quit taking their money."

The state is looking to have Automotive Protection pay consumer refunds and other civil penalties.

The Attorney General's press release revealed only 24 consumers complained before the State took action. This seems to demonstrate each individual's complaint really can make a difference and is valuable in a case like this!

Any North Carolina consumers who have dealt with Automotive Protection can file a complaint by downloading a form at www.ncdoj.gov or calling 1-877-5-NO-SCAM (toll-free within state).

In closing remarks Cooper said, "Tough times bring out the scammers." We certainly agree, as we get hundreds of complaints daily reporting similar scams! Please report telemarketers HERE and with the FTC.

I'm not from North Carolina, but from New Jersey and we have been harrarssed by this automotive warranty company for for months now! I asked them NOT to call us & told them we are not interested, so the calls stop for a few days but then they start up again!

Had calls like this too originating from Florida. Same voice, different call was about credit cards. Added to our voice mail message that our number was listed on Do Not Call Registry. No more messages or calls from that number. Then unknown caller on our ID with no messages. ARGH!!!!!!!!!
