As part of a recent settlement Verizon Wireless will receive $25,000 from Feature Films for Families, a Utah based telemarketing company that auto-dialed around 500,000 Verizon customers earlier this year. We originally covered this story in the post "Verizon Sues Utah Based Telemarketer for Auto-Dialing."
Verizon won an injunction to prevent Feature Films for Families from making similar, illegal calls in the future. Verizon reported that at one point Feature Films for Families was making up to 33 calls a second--that's almost 2,000 calls per minute!
The settlement is notable not only because it constitutes a win against telemarketers, but also because of the way that Verizon has chosen to spend the money. All $25,000 will be donated to the National Domestic Violence Hotline in Austin, Texas.
Verizon spokesman Jeffrey Nelson said, "[We have] aggressively pursued companies engaged in illegal telemarketing and text-message spamming, taking several groups to court and using the proceeds to support nonprofit organizations." Read more on this story HERE.
Verizon deserves a pat on the back for taking a stand on this issue. I hope this monetary penalty encourages Feature Films for Families to forgo their illegal telemarketing practices. Only time will tell!
Yeah,I told them last month not to call me because I was not interested in their no name films got yet another call and as much as I hate being rude I told this guy (the same one I spoke to last month) to leave me the 'blank' ALONE and then he had the gall to say I will call you back at anther time...and then he hung up on me.This time the call came from NJ,the last one from Boise and the ones before that from UTAH.
Well about 4 hours after my last post they called yet again after I told them to NOT call.I just filed another telemarketer complaint with the DNC registry not more than 2 minutes ago.I now have 13 telemarketer calls from the last 2 weeks saved on my caller ID.Most of which are from NJ for not only FFFF but also Brite White Teeth Whitening.I would like their home phone numbers so I can call them at all hours of the day and night repeatedly.Bet they would feel as though they were being stalked instead of them being the stalkers.
How do these rude and otherwise fraudulent callers get our cell phone #'S????? I was told by Verizon this is impossible. Yet they do it, but how? I wished there was a way to keep that which is private as such. Why have private #'S that crooks can access? Do you know Jesus as Lord and Savior? If not please e-mail me at rev_bob_walters_sr@yahoo.com.
Good post mate!! Keep 'em flowing!
I'm impressed! It's such a shame more folks haven't heard about this place, this article covered exactly what I needed!
Doubtful they will learn. They were fined $70,000 in 2006 for violating Missouri's Do Not Call laws. They have been illegally harassing me for months. Report them to the FTC, the Utah Better Business Bureau, and your state Attorney General as I have done. PLEASE call Forrest Baker their CEO and wake him up every day! Call Matt Cooper at (801)284-7242. I'M SICK OF THEIR HARASSMENT!!
