For the past week Feature Films for Families, a Utah based telemarketing company, has received a storm of negative attention for its marketing tactics. The company which promotes family oriented movies like the Velveteen Rabbit has been cold calling US consumers, repeatedly calling individuals listed on the Do Not Call List.
The Consumerist revealed that Feature Films for Families has been able to knowingly disregard the Do Not Call List because of its non-profit status (non-profits are exempt from following the Do Not Call List). However, they aren't totally immune from reproach.
Verizon Wireless filed a lawsuit against the company for auto-dialing 500,000 of its customers earlier this month over a 10 day period from the phone number 917-210-4609.
In the last 30 days Caller Complaints has received over 100 complaints about this number. To see what users had to say about these calls click HERE.
Verizon is seeking a preliminary injunction to stop Feature Films for Families from making more telemarketing calls to its customers.
In a recent statement Steven E. Zipperstein Vice President and General Counsel of Verizon Wireless said, "Telemarketers continue to harass our customers and impinge on their privacy, often using illegal methods including auto-dialers...these unlawful telemarketing calls are an annoyance to our customers and invade their privacy."
